Angie N. Ocampo-Roland

I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously, I was a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University.

My research examines the social and political incorporation of racial and ethnic minorities, with a particular focus on the heterogeneity of the Latina/o/x population in the United States. Specifically, I have two lines of work. First, I examine intergroup attitudes, particularly examining where Latinas/os/xs fit into an evolving racial hierarchy. I compare multiple viewpoints, examining Latina/o/x political attitudes as well as those of White and Black Americans. Second, I focus on the heterogeneity of Latina/o/x political behavior with a focus on disaggregating the category of "Latina/o/x." My current projects examine where Latinas/os/xs fit into conceptualizations of who is an American and the role of multiple identities in shaping political behavior among Latinas/os/xs.
At Pitt, I teach courses on political attitudes and public opinion, Latina/o/x politics, immigration and citizenship, and a graduate seminar on identity politics.
